About

I was born and raised in a small village in the Himalayan mountains of Nepal

My name is Biba Tamang. I was born and raised in a small village in the Himalayan mountains of Nepal. The purpose of this short biography is to share with you how events in my life resulted in a keen interest in childbirth, early childhood development, and assisting young mothers in having the most positive experience possible before and after having a child.

My own mother passed away when I was nine months old and I was sent to live with my grandmother, who was a Shaman in the village. She used to believe in natural herbal medicines to heal, using the resources growing in the mountains. My grandmother was often summoned to assist in childbirth or to take care of other village children. She was my first inspiration. I thought that if my mother had lived, I would be her princess and she would give me lots of love and care for me, and out of this dream, I grew up wanting to be a mom, have my own children, but also to share the joy of parenting with others.

At the age of sixteen, I left my village for Nepal Capital city, Kathmandu, dreaming of a better future. Three years later, I was offered a job as an au pair, a foreign domestic assistant, and left for France to care for her baby for one year. Sadly, when my visa expired I had to return to my native country but she and her daughter were so attached to me that they requested me to return for another year, which I happily did.

Back in Kathmandu, I met and married my husband, Jay Tamang. We have been married for thirteen years and have two sons, ages eight and twelve. During the early years of our marriage, I worked for various NGO based in Kathmandu, providing social services for children. After gaining experience working for such organizations, I started my own orphanage which provided food, shelter, and clothing to children in need. These twenty- five orphans also received medical care

In 2006, I moved with my family to California, where I was able to continue my work with children, as a nanny for last several years.

I am a certified Postpartum Doula by DTI(Doula Training International) in 2013. A Doula makes sure that a new mother and her new baby get the support and care they deserve by assisting the mother in making a smooth and happy transition into motherhood whether it is a first baby or a new addition to the family. A Postpartum Doula may be involved with the whole family before, during, or after childbirth, and will provide information about breast and/or bottle-feeding, postpartum depression and a variety of other related topics of interest to a new mother. My goal as a Doula is to ensure the mother feels safe and confident before, during and after delivery. I am there to listen, give emotional support, care for other siblings, help with chores and meal preparation, so mother can have a well-deserved nap.

The good thing about hiring postpartum Doula is that I work for you, so I follow your agenda. You are the parents. It is your child! My role is to support you in enjoying that experience as much as possible.
